Miele golf day 2017 - a review
After one of the wettest days of the year so far, the sun shone down on Thursday 18th May as guests arrived for the highly anticipated annual Miele Golf Day at Sandford Springs Golf Club, near Newbury. Although the weather did not hold all day, the late afternoon drizzle failed to dampen the spirits of the golfers, and it was fantastic to see so many old and new faces attend in their droves. In fact, this was the highest attended Miele golf day in over 20 years. In the morning Texas Scramble competition, the three ball of Joel Bernard, Glen Beardon and Martin Kowalski shot a fantastic three under par, to finish with a net score of 26.9 taking the prize from another threeball James Holland, Martin Depper and Simon Wood who finished on 27.3. After lunch, it was back out onto the course for the afternoon stableford competition. Nearest the Pin went to Harry Ruler who's ball on the 14th green was no more than a couple of feet from the hole whilst Tom Cross won Longest Drive. In the Team Stableford, congratulations to Mark Knightley, Francis Lowman, Ryan Rose and Joe Cook who won with 87pts. In the Individual Stableford competition, we again split the field into two handicap divisions - 19 and over and 0-18. In the higher handicap division, Paul Jenks finished third with 34pts, Greg Allen second with 37pts with the winner Simon Hockey winning on a countback also with 37pts. In the lower handicap division, Derek Brown came third with 35pts whilst Johnny Russell came runner-up with 37pts but the winner was Ryan Rose who shot a fantastic 42 points. The staff trophy was again hotly contested this year, with the winner Adam Ponting scoring an excellent 37pts whilst Steve Lister picked up Most Improved Staff Player with 33pts. We hope everyone enjoyed the day and we look forward to seeing you again in 2018! For a list of full results please click here
