Grays setting pace in race to Florida
What’s going on with the British weather?! Two consecutive warm and sunny society days, this time at the stunning Wallasey Golf Club on the Wirral. Three weeks ago we were saying Hankley Common was the most popular society day venue ever, but the feedback yesterday seems to suggest we might have a new favourite! Wallasey was at its absolute best yesterday and with light winds and sunshine it was certain that someone was going to go big! The Northern day is always one of our favourites as we get a fantastic mix of our most loyal Swingers who travel up and down the country to take part, plus we get to meet some new Swingers, many of whom go on to return to our days again and again. And it was one of those new Swingers who went on to set the day alight with a fantastic round. Nearest the Pin went to Ross Hewson, brother of previous finalist James, whilst Nearest the Pin in two went to former European Captain Ken Daly. In the individual competition, there were some great performances. In sixth place was loyal Swinger Leon Loberman with 33pts on a count back. Leon is joining us out in the States later this year for our US day, so he will be hoping to put in another great performance there. Fifth place went to Martin Derrick, back and beginning to perform again after a long injury lay off. Fourth spot went to new Swinger Steve Cooke with 35pts. Third place went to Scotland’s Ken Daly, on a rich run of form, with 39pts. After his wife’s runner up spot at Hankley Common, Andrew Gray was not to be outdone and he secured second place with an excellent 40pts. The winner on the day however, was new Swinger Luke Eustace who shot 42 points to take home a range of goodies from the likes of Cleveland Golf, Srixon and SkyCaddie and also put him in contention for that final spot in Florida, assuming Luke gets lucky on the reserve list for the remaining two days in September! In that race to Florida however, it is the Gold member husband and wife team of Andrew and Rebecca Gray who lead the way with a combined score of 73pts. It’s going to be a competitive summer in the Gray household as they jostle for first spot in the two remaining days in September. Thank you to everyone who came to Wallasey and made the long journey. We never take your loyalty and enthusiasm for granted and we cannot wait until we all get together again, either in the US in August or at Denham in September. Enjoy the rest of your Swingers summer!
