Fun in the sun at Walton Heath
After months of poor weather, which has frustrated a good number of golfers, including those attending our Southport & Ainsdale day, it was a delight to wake up to blue skies and warm sunshine as our loyal Swingers converged on the world famous Walton Heath Golf Club in Surrey.
Walton Heath is steeped in history having hosted the Ryder Cup back in 1981, the European Open on five occasions and annually for the last few years, US Open qualifying. What's more this Autumn, Justin Rose brings the British Masters to Walton Heath which will be played on a composite course.
For our Swingers, it was the Old Course that provided the challenge and if you stayed straight and out of the heather, there were scoring opportunities to be had.
Well done to Roger Harpum who won the double of Nearest the Pin and Nearest the Pin in two to win prizes from Level 4 Golf and Dirty Dog.
In the Individual Stableford it was a competitive affair. In sixth place was new Swinger Tim Knaust with 37pts winning a prize from Trendy Golf. In fifth place, showing his consistency following a good display at Southport & Ainsdale, was Mark Kelly with 37pts on a countback, winning prizes from Trendy Golf and Dirty Dog. Fourth place went to South African Janus Horn who made the effort to fly over for our day, and following Walton Heath, managed to hook up some golf in Scotland with Ken Daly. Janus shot 37pts also winning prizes from SkyPro and Dirty Dog.
Third place went to Robert Dunn with an excellent 38pts winning a Cleveland bag and Dirty Dog sunglasses. The runners-up spot went to S14 finalist Mahesh Mani with 38pts on a countback. Mahesh now finds himself in pole position in our aggregate competition to find a finalist for Vegas, and he also won prizes from Stewart Golf and Dirty Dog.
However it was Luke Eustace with 41pts, including a fantastic recovery on 18 after pulling his drive left into the heather, which helped Luke take first place with prizes from Stewart Golf and Dirty Dog.
It was a fantastic day all round, thanks to the support of the Swingers family (including Andrew Lyth who flew over from the US) and all the partners who provided such fabulous gifts and prizes. Next up is the trip to San Diego for our US day and more sunshine at the fantastic Maderas Golf Club.
We look forward to seeing some of you there!
