Miele golf day 2018 - a review

Beautiful clear blue skies and warm May sunshine greeted the guests at the annual Miele Golf Day at Sandford Springs Golf Club, near Newbury on 17th May.It was fantastic to see so many old and new faces attend the day and the courses at Sandford were presented in great condition, meaning good scoring was the order of the day! In the morning Texas Scramble competition, the four ball of Derek Brown, Jamie Paddington, Luke Jackaman and Glenn Beardon, put together a fantastic round and ran out deserved winners with a net score of 26.8. After a short break for lunch, it was back out onto the Woods/Lakes course for the highly anticipated afternoon Stableford competition. An additional feature for the afternoon was the introduction of VPAR live scoring, which certainly added much interest and competition amongst the players! Nearest the Pin on 14th went to Ian Bickerstaff whilst Dave Best produced a huge drive on 26th hole to claim Longest Drive. Another added twist to the day was the 'Mashie Challenge' on the picturesque 25th hole, where guests were invited to hit their tee shots with and old fashioned hickory club for a chance to win a prize. Nearest the Pin on this hole went to James Holland for his fantastic shot to within a couple of feet. In the Team Stableford, scoring was spectacular with 4 teams scoring 90 points or more. However the team of Dave Best, Greg Allen, Tom Mee and Steve Best claimed victory with an impressive 92 points. In the Individual Stableford competition, the level of scoring was again very high with nearly half the field scoring more than 30 points. In third place was Ben Chantrey on 40 points just missing out on count back for runners-up spot to Greg Allen, who also finished on 40 points. However, Steve Best produced the round of the day to claim first prize with a great score of 41 points. The staff trophy was again hotly contested this year, with the winner Sam Rogers, scoring a superb 41 points, just pipping Tim Bertram on count back (back 3 holes!) who also finished with 41 points. Stuart Nicoll claimed the most improved staff player trophy for a very creditable round of 33 points. Well done to all our winners. We hope everyone enjoyed the day and we look forward to seeing you again in 2019!
