Wonderful Woburn provides closest ever finish

In perfect golfing weather, over seventy Virgin Atlantic Flying Club Gold members , a number of lucky Swingers, and of course our fantastic sponsors converged on Woburn Golf Club for the first of two annual Gold days. The Marquess' Course was presented in absolute peak condition, and the individual competition proved to be one of the closest ever staged. Each year, we also hold a tuition clinic for 24 Gold members, where they get to spend 3 quality hours with Woburn's finest teaching pros. Each pro then chooses their most improved player of the day, so well done to Philip Durrant, Nikki Levoir, and Stuart Ward who took that honour this time round.

Despite Hertz providing a fantastic Mercedes for the hole in one competition, there were unfortunately no winners, although some were close! In the Trendy Golf Nearest the Pin Competition, the £100 Trendy Golf voucher went to S14 European Swingers Captain Morag Hutcheon, whilst Gleneagles' Alan Pirie took home the prize for Nearest the Pin in Two.

The Team Stableford Competition was a hotly contested affair with the threeball of Gregory Wood, Nigel Tatlock, and Alan Sparkes finishing second with 88pts. First place went to John Herring, Martin Derrick and James Sheairs with 90pts. As always we split the individual stableford into 2 handicap divisions - 18+ and 0-17. In the 18+, fourth place went to Phil Alderman with 35pts on a countback. Third place went to James Sheairs with 36pts, the runner-up prize went to Jason Hill with 36pts on a countback, and you guessed it the winner also had 36pts with John Herring taking first place on a countback! In the 0-17 division, Ian Cook finished 4th with 33pts on a countback. In third place was James Brindley Raynes with 34pts. Runner-up spot wnt to David Barton with 34pts on a countback, whilst the winner was Swinger James Hewson with 36pts. The overall winner however, therefore claiming the main prize of a 2 night stay with golf for two at Gleneagles was John Herring, thanks to his countback! An exciting day all round as we now look forward to our return to Woburn next month.
