Virgin Atlantic fly high in the Woburn sunshine

The second Virgin Atlantic Gold members day of the year saw us return once more to the magnificent Marquess course at Woburn for one of the hottest ever Gold days on record. The Woburn team have done a great job keeping the course in such fantastic condition in these current weather conditions, and the Virgin Atlantic guests certainly took advantage! For those Gold members who were new to the game and wanted to learn more we hosted a tuition day with three of Woburn's experienced PGA professionals. Congratulations to David Colfer, Matthew Harris and Lasantha Wikramanayake who were rewarded with prizes for their efforts across the three hour session. Out on the golf course, unfortunately no one took home the Mercedes car sponsored by Hertz UK in our hole in one competition, although there were a number of players who came very close! The Nearest the Pin competition sponsored by Trendy Golf was won by Kam Sanghani, whilst Flying Club Swinger Geff Briant took Nearest the Pin in two on the picturesque par 4 12th hole. In the team competiiton, it was two three balls who took home the prizes. In second place with 91pts were Blair Ainslie, and former Swingers finalists Garett Endenburg and Andrew Gray. First place with 95pts were Chad Taylor, Richard Buckler and Richard Drean.

In the individual stableford competition, we again split the prizes into two divisions - 18+ and 0-17. In the 18+ competition, fourth place went to Nigel Halliwell with 36pts, third place went to Mark Dorey with 36pts on a countback, and the runners-up spot went to Swinger Geff Briant with an excellent 37pts. The winner of the 18+ competition however was Richard Buckler with a superb 39pts. In the lower handicap sectionvfourth place went to Ben Smith with 36pts. Third place went to James Phelps with 36pts on a countback. The runner-up spot went to Anthony Dark with 38pts but our low handicap winner and overall winner on the day was Simon Stern with 41pts. Congratulations got to Simon, a superb round which has won him a trip to the fabulous Gleneagles Hotel in Scotland.
