Master performance from Dunn lights up Keith Pedlar Friendship Trophy
Our S16 society day season began last week as we returned to the stunning Walton Heath Golf Club in Surrey. This year it was the turn of the New Course to host our Virgin Atlantic Swingers, and we also combined the competition with the Keith Pedlar Friendship Trophy, in memory of our good friend and loyal Swinger Keith Eustace-Pedlar. Once more in celebration of Keith, we asked Swingers to dress in pink and there were some superb efforts, as we raised £1,100 for Virgin's WE Charity and SeaFarers UK, as Keith was a mariner in his day. In our best dressed competition, there were some superb efforts, but the prize deservedly went to Scott Murray who wore an outrageous pink shirt (see image) and even sported pink head covers and a specially made bespoke Keith Pedlar Friendship towel! In our charity two's competition, there were wins for Chris Bates, Wayne Hodgson and Robert Dunn, with Wayne and Robert also taking the prizes for Nearest the Pin and Nearest the Pin in Two.
The golf played on Friday was of a high standard, with the top 8 all scoring 37pts or better. In eighth place was new Swinger Wayne Hodgson with 37pts, pipped to seventh by Gary Hankinson on a countback, who himself was also beaten on a countback by Sean Dolan in sixth place. In fifth place was another new Swinger Tom George on 38pts, with Andrew Gray taking fourth place on a countback.
The top three saw James Gear in third place on 39pts beaten by Martin Derrick on a countback who took the runner-up spot. But there was no disputing the real star of the day. Playing off a handicap of 5, Robert Dunn went round in 41pts winning a range of fabulous prizes from our sponsors as well as taking care of the very special Keith Pedlar Trophy for the coming year.
Thank you to everyone who made the effort to join us, especially those who had such long journeys on a bank holiday weekend, none more so than Andrew Lyth who came across from Texas! We look forward to seeing many of you at Little Aston next week where the race for the first spot in Team Europe for this year's Final continues.
