Gold members embrace the challenge of the Duke's Course at Woburn

The first of our annual Gold member invitational days saw invited guests take on the challenge of the Duke's Course at Woburn. Traditionally, we have always played the Marquess' Course, but this year we decided upon a new challenge, and there's no doubt that the tight fairways of the stunningly beautiful Duke's Course provided just that - a real challenge! Guests were treated to a goody bag containing gifts from Titleist, Hertz, Glenmuir and Gleneagles whilst our tuition attendees each received a fabulous Titleist Vokey wedge! The tuition clinic was our best ever attended as Gold members got to improve their golfing skills under the watchful eyes of the Woburn pros. There were two prize winners for most improved - Elizabeth Walkinshaw and Claire Alderson who both took home Woburn shirts as a memento of the day. Out on the course guests tried their hand at the Hertz Hole in One Competition for a Mercedes car but sadly, despite some very good efforts, there were no winners! However, the Nearest the Pin prize went to Alan Johannen who won a Level 4 wash bag and BLUNT umbrella, whilst Nearest the Pin in Two went to Keith Allingham who won the same prize. The Team competition was a closely fought affair with runners-up Oliver Miro, Kenneth Foulger, Rodney Jackson and Lee Fitzgerald scoring 82pts to win Glenmuir clothing gift sets. They were just pipped to the main prize by the 3 ball of Andrew Gray, Rebecca Gray and Garett Endenberg who scored an impressive 83pts to each win a Titleist golf bag travel cover. In the individual stableford we again split the field into two handicap divisions - 19+ and 0-18. Third place in the 19+ category went to James Mackay with 32pts who won prizes from Glenmuir and Dirty Dog. The runners-up spot went to Darren Dowsett with 35pts winning a Stewart Golf bag and Dirty Dog sunglasses. The first prize went to Paul Mayhew with 36pts who won a Stewart Golf trolley and Dirty Dog sunglasses. In the low handicap category, third prize went to Simon Barber with 35pts winning prizes from Glenmuir and Dirty Dog. The runners up prize went to Keith Allingham with 36pts winning a Titleist travel cover and Dirty Dog Sunglasses. That just left our low handicap and overall winner, Oliver Miro, who shot a superb 40pts to take home prizes from SkyCaddie, Titleist, Dirty Dog and of course the flag ship prize on the day of a two night stay with golf for two at Gleneagles. Thank you to everyone who came along on the day, and of course to all our sponsors who support the day and Virgin Atlantic Flying Club Swingers throughout our season. Our next Gold members day takes place on 2 July at Carden Park in Cheshire.
