Leon goes big across the pond to win first ever day!
Ninety minutes outside of NYC, a mixture of US and UK Swingers converged on the fabulous Ballyowen Golf Club for our annual US day, which this year saw us move from West to East Coast. The forecast was not particularly great with heavy thunderstorms predicted all day, but we got very lucky and 99% of the day was completed in overcast yet warm conditions. This links style course provided a good test for our golfers, yet there were some exceptional scores which created an exciting day for our competitors, as they headed to the first tee after a full breakfast. Former S13 Finalist Peter Honigmann was in fine form and won both our Nearest the Pin and Nearest the Pin in two competitions. The team competition saw US Swingers Paul Downey, David Caleta, Carlos Suarez and Zarvan Khambatta dovetail superbly to win with 99 points. In the Individual Stableford, US Swinger Carlos Suarez finished in third place with 41pts, whilst Akshay Aiyer took the runner up spot with 43 points. The big winner on the day however was one of our ambassadors and most loyal Swingers, Leon Loberman who travelled from the UK via San Fran(!) to take part in the day. It was certainly worth his while as he played a fantastic round to win his first ever Virgin Atlantic Swingers day with an incredible 43 points on a countback! Well done Leon!! Spare a thought for US Swinger Simon Fotheringham who was our first qualifier for the S16 final after a great round of 38 points. Simon however has recently booked a mutli-destination holiday and although he's tried to rearrange that one, he sadly will be missing out on his first final appearance. The lucky Swinger in the wings however is Tom Riddell. Tom is now the first official finalist of S16 and willl be representing Team ROW in Liverpool this coming October. Well done Tom and a big thank you to everyone who made the effort to spend the day with us in New Jersey. A big thank you also yet again to all our sponsors who provided prizes and gifts for the day.
We hope to see you again in the US in S17!
