Wild and windy at West Lancs!

A windy day on the Lancashire coast set the scene for arguably the toughest conditions ever on a Virgin Atlantic Swingers society day, as our loyal members once again travelled far and wide for the final society day of another exciting season. This time the setting was the beautiful (and brutal!) West Lancs Golf Club on the outskirts of Liverpool and with a place in the S16 Final also up for grabs, there was a lot at stake.

In the nearest the pin competition, a tough pin placement on the 3rd coupled with the wind made it a real challenge, but well done to Gary Hankinson who took the prize. The nearest the pin in two competition on the 10th proved even tougher as hitting the green in the strong wind proved impossible for some, but well done to Sean Henry, attending his first Swingers day, who finished closest.

In the individual Stableford competition, it was the first day in a long time that not one person finished with 36pts or more! In sixth place was Alan Todd with 32pts, whilst he was pipped in fifth place by Simon Weathers on a count back (32pts). Fourth place went to Mark Attwell with 33pts whilst Rob Dunn, a previous winner this summer, took third place with 34pts.

Our runner up and winner were only separated on count back. A great round from James Gear saw him take the runner up spot with 35pts, but it was nice to see a return to form for our winner Andrew Meredith who also scored 35pts.

However, the big prize was a place in the S16 Final at Royal Birkdale and Southport & Ainsdale next month, awarded to the Swinger with the best two society day scores this summer. It would have taken a momentous score for anyone to catch our leader especially in the windy conditions, so Andrew Gray came through to confirm his space in Team Europe, joining Tom Riddell as the confirmed Team ROW representative from our society days this summer. Well done Andrew, you've proved a great finalist in the past and we are sure you will be a great finalist again this year!

So, our Swingers society days come to a close once more as we nearly say goodbye to Season 16. Thank you to all our sponsors who have provided such fantastic support again this season.
