Daniel Robinson & Sons dominate to win 6th annual Provide charity golf day

The 6th annual Provide Charity Golf Day once again returned to Benton Hall Golf Club in Essex on Friday 4th October. Despite some miserable weather in the run up to the day and a less than favourable forecast, the rain never really materialised and we saw a record turnout of 76 golfers who battled it out for some great prizes throughout the day. Sadly nobody scooped the amazing hole in one prize of a £20,000 Mini Cooper convertible, despite some very good efforts on the tough par 3 13th hole! Mark Readman won Nearest the Pin with a fine shot on the short 6th and the prize for the Straightest Drive on 9th went to Provide Chairman, Derrick Louis. On hole 12 the Nearest the Pin in 2 shots prize went to Daren Winder. The Longest Drive competition on the 18th hole for men was won by Matt Cooke, with Jo Stentiford claiming the longest drive for the ladies. In the Individual Stableford event scoring was excellent with large numbers of the field scoring over 30 points. Neil Matthews claimed third prize with 39 points on countback whilst Daren Winder scored 40 points to take runners-up spot. However, our overall winner was Paul Brinkman who also scored 40 points but took the spoils on countback. Our ladies winner was Lorrain Jeyes who finished with a very creditable 30 points. In the team event again the scoring as very good, with eleven teams scoring over 80 points. Third place went to The Fore Horesman team of Mike Fair, Louis Philips, Tony Emms and Michael Glassock with a great score of 90 points. Runners-up were Newmarket Knights (Philip Richards, Neil Matthews, Matt Cooke and Dan Knight) who also finished on 90 points, but the overall winners on the day was the Daniel Robinson and Sons team of Gary Neill, Terry Tennens, Daren Winder and Keith Hainsworth who scored a superb total of 94 points to claim the trophy. A big thank you to the generous sponsors and for all your support in digging deep and raising over £8,000 for the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust during the day. Congratulations once again to all the prize winners and we look forward to seeing you again next year.
