Cooke and Attwell are peerless at Prince's for inaugural Matchbook golf event
The inaugural Matchbook golf event took place this weekend at Prince's Golf Club in Sandwich, as the stunning Kent links played host to two days of fun and competitive golf for a select group of invited guests. The Sunday 9 holes on the Dunes Course was blessed with gorgeous afternoon sunshine and was keenly contested with some fantastic scoring from all teams. Captain Steve Cooke proved to be an inspiration for his team as they ran out winners with a superb team Stableford score of 50 points. Congratulations to Steve, Mark Attwell, Bob Scott and Trevor Seabrook for their tremendous score. After a superb dinner at The Brasserie on the Bay, some dubiously named after dinner drinks (!) and excellent accommodation in the Lodge, players headed back out on the links in the morning for the keenly anticipated better ball pairs competition. The Himalayas/Shore course proved to be a slightly stiffer test but we again saw some fantastic golf. After a superb front 9 (Himalayas) score of 24 points, Steve Cooke and Mark Attwell were once again proving to be the form players of the weekend and after an almost equally impressive back nine score of 23 points, they romped home to win with fantastic 47 points. Runners-up were Andrew Gray and Rebecca Gray with a fine 43 points and third place went to Martin Derrick and Bob Scott after they scored 42 points. In the other on course competitions, Tim Knaust claimed the Nearest the Pin prize with a superb tee shot to a couple of feet on the Par 3 5th hole (Himalayas), Steve Cooke won Nearest the Pin in 2 Shots on the spectacular 8th hole (Himalayas) and Longest Drive went to Roger Harpum for his booming tee shot on the 2nd hole (Shore).
Thank you to our friends at Hayman's Gin for supplying some little treats for the goody bags, plus of course our suppliers at Titleist, Glenmuir and Dirty Dog for the great prizes and Prince's Golf Club for their kind hospitality over the two days.
Blessed with some fine weather, very little wind and a spectacular double rainbow over Sandwich Bay to finish, it was a pleasure to spend a fun weekend with you all and thanks again for all your support.
See you at the next one!
