Gray and Glennon seal SkyCaddie Match Play win in final act of S16

The final act of Season 16 of Virgin Atlantic Flying Club Swingers took place at Woburn Golf Club last Friday as our two triumphant pairs from the North and South half of the draw faced off in the Grand Final of the SkyCaddie Swingers Match Play Trophy on the Marquess Course. A bitterly cold day did not deter a flurry of supporters happy to follow the finalists around including Rebecca Gray, Martin Derrick and Bob Scott amongst others. Would the clear favourites be able to handle the weight of expectation when it came to the crunch? You bet they could! Steve Glennon and Andrew Gray got off to a flyer going four up after four holes with some fine play. Matt Carrett then held a nice putt to pull a hole back amidst much jubilation from his partner Scott Murray, but it was to prove a false dawn as Steve and Andrew raced to six up at the turn.

A couple of beers and the legendary Woburn sausage rolls all round could not stop the Northern onslaught as Steve and Andrew went seven up with eight holes to play. Scott and Matt managed to halve hole 11, before their fate was finally sealed on picturesque 12th hole where the match ended with an 8&6 victory to the Northern champions. Congratulations to both pairs for making it this far after a great summer, and of course congratulations to Andrew Gray and Steve Glennon who take over as champions from Roger Harpum and Paul Copley. Each pair received a unique glass trophy as well as a SkyCaddie Linx GT watch from our sponsor. Full a full breakdown of all the results from this year's competition please click here.
