Bird on song at Bearwood

Bearwood Lakes was the setting for our first Golf News Linksnet Network Day of 2023, as members from across the country converged on this beautiful corner of Berkshire for what proved to be a stunning day. And although the clouds did make it a little cool in the morning, the sun soon came out on this stunning course.

After receiving their TItleist Pro V1 balls and a bacon roll, the guests headed out to test themselves on one of the best and most exclusive courses in England. We were blessed with a field containing no less than 10 single figure handicap golfers and several previous Network Day winners so expectations were high! There was some excellent golf on display across the field with two of our regulars, Mark Attwell and Dave Cooksley taking the honours in the Nearest the Pin and Nearest the Pin in Two competitions. Mark won a bottle of Hayman's Gin whilst Dave won a signature bottle of Merser Rum. The team competition proved incredibly tight with Forbes Cutler, John Whiskin, Leon Loberman and Darren Hughes winning by just 1pt - their 89pts bettering the 88pts total from Derek Bird, Wayne Collier and Carol Brown who had a blind player added to make up the fourball total. Forbes' team won a Castore polo shirt each. In the all important individual competition, 3 players scored 40 points or more, showing just how perfect the conditions were. In third place was Carol Brown with 40pts winning a pair of Skechers shoes. Runner up also with 40pts but beating Carol on a countback was Stuart Nice, who won a £250 voucher from Stewart Golf. But it was Celtic Manor's Derek Bird, resplendent in all pink, who stole the show coming in with 42 pts to take first place and win the Bushnell Golf Tour 5 Laser. Derek now takes his place at the top of the Network Day Order of Merit where places can be won for the 2024 Spring Final.
