Linksnet raises £1400 for Ukraine crisis

One of the finest courses in the UK was in superb condition and with perfect weather conditions, it proved to be another memorable day for our Linksnet members.

With so much to play for this summer at every Network Day and in our overall Order of Merit as well the online leaderboard competitions, the day proved a fun but competitive affair with some new names rising to the top.

The day also marked our support for Ukraine as we encouraged members to wear blue and yellow and enter our charity raffle. There were some superb colour combinations out on the course – hats off to the likes of Mark Attwell, Alan Thompson and many others who sported the blue and yellow but there could only be two winners of the best dressed competition! First up was Peter Carter-Brown sporting a yellow cap, yellow belt, yellow/blue wrist band and blue shoes with yellow laces! Then we also had George Copley who braved a chilly wind early on with his blue shorts and Ukraine shirt. We raised an incredible £1400 for Golfers for Ukraine which we should all be proud of. Thank you to everyone who made such an effort. Our raffle winners were: Stewart Golf R1-S Push Trolley and accessories bundle – Trevor Hails 2 ball voucher for Hollinwell – Peter Carter-Brown Bushnell Phantom GPS – Peter Carter-Brown Haymans Gin Set – George Copley Titleist Pro V1X Balls - George Copley Blunt Umbrella – Tom Moore Dirty Dog Sunglasses – Tom Moore Dirty Dog Sunglasses - Rob Cooper Golf Escapes Polo Shirt – Bob Scott Golf Escapes Polo Shirt – John Whiskin Golf Escapes Polo Shirt – Terry Upham Golf Escapes Polo Shirt – Brian Ford Skechers golf towel and shoe horn – Bob Scott

As well as some excellent fashion out on the course there was also some excellent golf being played! Congratulations to debutant Peter Uri for his brilliant Nearest the Pin which was just inches away from the flag. Peter won a bottle of Hayman’s gin.

Nearest the Pin in Two went to Dave Cooksley and for his superb effort he won a bottle of Merser rum.

The Team Stableford winners were Dave Cooksley, Peter Carter-Brown, Terry Woods and Gary Ribeiro who scored an excellent 83 points to win a dozen Titleist Pro V1 balls each.

In the Individual Stableford, it proved a very close affair with four players tied on 35 points, and two players who could hardly be separated. Third and second place forced us to check the rules of golf, as both players were tied on a countback on the back 9, 6, 3 and final hole! Placing is then decided by the matchplay result between the two players after three holes. Thank you to George who spent time for us researching the correct procedure!

In third place was Simon Ford (the Stewart Golf competition winner), playing his first Linksnet day. Simon won a pair of Skechers shoes. The runner up was Carl Greenwood who wins a two ball voucher to a future Linksnet day.

Our overall winner however was another debutant, Gary Ribeiro, who made the three hour trek from Northumberland to Hollinwell on his birthday but what a birthday it proved to be as he shot a superb 38 points to win a £250 voucher from Stewart Golf.

Thank you to everyone who took part yesterday and thanks once again to all our sponsors for providing the great prizes on the day.

We hope to see you and your friends at more Network Days this season.
