Linksnet visits iconic St Andrews
A busy week for Linksnet concluded in fine style with a fantastic trip to St Andrews in Scotland for our first residential event. Warm sunshine and glorious blue skies provided an incredible backdrop to our first round on the picture postcard Kittocks Course with its stunning coastal holes wowing our members.
Day one was a team competition played as a Cha Cha Cha or Waltz as many people know it. It really gets the team thinking and it produced some fascinating golf especially for the three balls who had a blind/ghost player included in their four. To ensure live scoring on the day had meaning, we announced the randomly drawn blind player in advance so the pressure really was on Gary Hankinson to perform! Gary lived up to the challenge and performed brilliantly for the three balls, especially that of Andy Caulton, Rolf Mcullagh and Robert Wagner who, with Gary’s help, secured 90 points to win the team competition and a Stewart Golf rain cover each.
It was a good day for Andy Caulton who also won a pair of Dirty Dog sunglasses for being Nearest the Pin, whilst Longest Drive and another pair of Dirty Dogs went to big hitter Ian Gallagher.
After dinner in the hotel together, we woke up the next day to face the challenge of the Torrance Course. Although the blue skies had gone, we were incredibly lucky with the weather once more.
Nearest the Pin went to Glyn Andrews whilst Longest Drive went to Simon Hudson. Both won Titleist balls and an Island Green cap.
The day's Individual Stableford competition was to count towards our aggregate competition for a place in the end of season Final, so there was a lot to play for. Three players in particular played superb rounds. Glyn Andrews who was leading for much of the day ended up with a superb 39 points but just missed out on the runners-up spot to Andy Caulton on a countback. Andy capped off a fine week to take home a Bushnell Phantom GPS device whilst Glyn won a pair of Skechers shoes.
But it was left Simon Hudson from provulo to make the big statement and win his second day in a month after his success at the Belfry. This time Simon won with a superb 41 points to win the Stewart Golf R1-S trolley and Dirty Dog sunglasses. Well done Simon, the new leader in our aggregate competition, and thank you to all our members who took time out to spend a fantastic two days with us. We definitely plan to do more of these next season!
