Season ends in style at Woburn
Our final Network Day of the season also marked the final day of Season 2, so there were a few keen members looking to get one last score recorded to help their chances of making next month’s Final at Prince's.
There’s no better place to finish a season than at the stunning Woburn Golf Club, and although the weather did it’s best in the hours before to spoil things, we got incredibly lucky on the day. Despite torrential overnight rain and early morning thunderstorms, the greens staff did an incredible job to get the course playable, which was a huge relief for everyone!
Before all the excitement on the golf course, our members were treated to a fabulous show and clinic from Geoff Swain who always adds an extra special element to the day with his amazing skills and golfing stories.
Out on the Marquess Course, Nearest the Pin went to Hampshire’s Mick Baker who took home a pair of Dirty Dog sunglasses, whilst Longest Drive went to one of our new attendees, Max Thomas who also won a pair of sunglasses.
In the team event, the excellent fourball from the North West – Damon Lawrenson, Neil Edwards, Steven Wood and Lee Cunliffe proved too good for everyone else with a superb 79 points in tough scoring conditions. The team each took home a bundle of Titleist balls, Hayman’s Gin and a Camelbak water bottle.
In the Individual Stableford competition, Damon Lawrenson produced a great round to finish third on 36 points claiming the Bushnell Phantom GPS. In second place beating Damon on a countback was Scott Murray who has had a great season and wrapped it up with 36 points winning the Bushnell Edge GPS watch.
However our winner was Derek Bird from Celtic Manor scoring an excellent 37 points to take home the Stewart Golf R1-S Push trolley and a pair of Dirty Dog sunglasses. Well done Derek!
Running alongside those competitions was of course the climax to our aggregate competition to find a finalist for our end of season Final at Prince's. Realistically there were only two players able to catch the leader Andrew Gray who himself was not playing Woburn. Unfortunately for both Glyn Andrews and Simon Hudson, the conditions made it very difficult yesterday and therefore Andrew holds on to first place and becomes our first qualifier for the Final. Congratulations Andrew!
Thank you to all our sponsors who have contributed so much to all these days throughout the year, and especially to Simon from provulo who really has shown incredible enthusiasm to get involved. We also want to say a big thank you to Derek Caussin and his Trackman service which Derek kindly provided for everyone on the 18th tee. Anyone wanting to find out more about Derek’s service can email him at dcaussin@gmail.com
And finally thank you to each and every one of you who have supported Linksnet this season travelling to all the days, putting up with the weather and the COVID postponements. Your support has been incredible and much appreciated.
