Sherwood Forest delight for Harris

When we went on sale with our Sherwood Forest day back in the late spring of 2020, we never envisaged it would take nearly 18 months to run it! But after 2 COVID postponements, no fuel crisis or bad weather forecast was going to stop us this time!

The beautiful Sherwood Forest layout sits proudly in the top 100 courses in the UK, and it didn't fail to disappoint. Weather conditions were tough with blustery showers all day, but despite this there was some excellent golf played on the challenging heathland course.

Nearest the Pin went to Burnley’s Lee Corns who took home a pair of Dirty Dog sunglasses, ideal for his upcoming golf trip to Turkey! Longest Drive went to Andrew Gray for his monster effort on the long 13th hole. Andrew also won himself a pair of Dirty Dog sunglasses.

In the team event, the 'ghost' player added to the three balls led to a win for Roger Harpum, Mark Attwell and Brian Harris who finished with 91 points, ably assisted by Duncan Whitehead. The team took home Island Green socks, Titleist balls and Hayman’s Gin.

In the Individual Stableford competition, the battle for third place was very close with a pair of Skechers shoes up for grabs. When Terry ‘Tiger’ Woods raced his putt past the pin on 18, Roger Harpum thought he had it, but Terry showed nerves of steel to hold the return putt to secure his net birdie. Terry himself then had to watch as Glyn Andrews had an incredible back 9 to take third place with a score of 37 points beating Terry and Roger on a countback!

The battle for top spot also proved to be a very close affair. New Linksnet member Brian Harris, sat in the clubhouse with a superb 39 points on his Network Day debut. Andrew Gray also finished strongly to score 39 points but lost out to Brian on a countback. As runner-up, Andrew won a Bushnell Phantom GPS device whilst our winner Brian took home the Stewart Golf R1-S Push trolley.

There was more joy for Andrew however as his 39 points have taken him to the top of the aggregate competition for a place in our Linksnet Final at Prince's next month. With one last sold out Network Day to come at Woburn in a couple weeks, realistically only Glyn Andrews and Simon Hudson can beat Andrew to that spot – Glyn needing 37 points to guarantee his place, Simon 38 points, both depending on what each other does. Andrew himself is not playing Woburn so will have to sit and nervously wait to see if he finishes on top. It’s sure to be an exciting finish!

Thank you to everyone who attended our day at and to all our sponsors for their fantastic support as ever.
