Wonderful scoring at Wallasey

The historic Wallasey Golf Club on the Wirral played host to our fourth Linksnet Network Day of the season last week.

Wallasey is without doubt one of the finest links courses on this enviable stretch of coastline which boasts so many great venues. With a challenging breeze and early morning rain persisting, it proved a real challenge as our members set out on their rounds. However, some good fortune saw conditions improve as the day progressed and with it so did the scoring.

Our Nearest the Pin competition on the tricky 9th hole saw Stuart Nice hit his tee shot to within two feet in the first group out and this fine effort was never beaten. Longest Drive on the 17th hole went to Rob Dunn, so both Stuart and Rob won a pair of Dirty Dog sunglasses for when the weather improves again!

The Team Stableford competition, proved to be a very close affair as the team of Mark Attwell, Rebecca Gray, Roy Backhouse and Carol Brown won with 89 points after a back nine countback. They each won a dozen Titleist Tour Soft balls.

In the Individual Stableford competition, there were some superb scores. James Gear finished in third place with 40 points winning him a pair of Skechers shoes. The runner up spot went to Roy Backhouse, a former member of Wallasey. Using his course knowledge, Roy had a superb round finishing with 41 points which on most days would have been enough to take first place. Roy did however win a fantastic Bushnell Phantom GPS device for his efforts. Our overall winner on the day was new member David Cooksley who got off to a fantastic start with 22 points through his first eight holes and hung on strongly through the back nine to finish on 43 points and win himself a Stewart Golf R1-S Push Trolley and a pair of Dirty Dog sunglasses.

In our aggregate competition, which awards one lucky Network day attendee a place in our Prince's final in November, Terry Woods still leads the way after three events with an aggregate score of 100 points. But it's all to play for as more players play their second and third days!

Thank you to everyone who attended our day at Wallasey and made it such a fun and friendly experience. Thanks also to the team at Wallasey for a great service all day. And finally a special mention to all our partners and sponsors who provided gifts and fantastic prizes for the day.

If you would like to join us at any of our remaining 6 days, please check the Network Days page here. We very much hope to see you all very soon.
